BSNL, the state-owned telecom service provider, along with Sai Infosystem - an Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) provider - has launched Voice and Video Over Internet Protocol (VVoIP). This will allow its customers to make audio as well as video calls to any landline, mobile, or IP phone anywhere in the world, provided that the requisite video phone equipment is available at both ends.
The service will cost 40 paise per minute for audio and Rs 2 per minute for video calls within the country over VVoIP. International calls are also available at affordable rates. A call made to the US or UK will cost Rs 1.20 per minute on landlines and Rs 7.20 on mobiles. Subscribers can avail this service by paying a registration charge of Rs 150.BSNL will start offering this service at Ahmedabad, and later make it available to Gujarat. It will eventually be brought to Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
