We will be constantly switching from one webpage to another and do not give much concentration on Gmail chats or emails. Because of this reason, you will go with Internet messengers like Gtalk, Empathy, Pidgin and etc.. But from now on, we don't need these things to show notification when someone pings you or when you receive some emails. This is HTML5 based Desktop noticications
Yes, Gmail has come up with Desktop notifications by which you will get notifications when someone pings you or when you receive emails :) Isn't this a good news? :)
To turn this feature on, click on Settings in the upper right corner of Gmail, scroll down and choose whether you want to be notified of chat messages, e-mails, or only important e-mails.
