Autopost Twitter updates to Facebook Wall

We get frustrated lot of time when we have to post lot of status updates in both Twitter as well as Facebook. We need some apps or some method by which we can redirect and post our status messages in both Twitter as well as Facebook at a time. But if you think in reality, we tend to update all our twitter updates to our Facebook wall if there is no control over the application.

Techspace provides you a simple app by which we can control which message has to be posted in Facebook and which message to be not posted by simple means. Yes, a application named Selective Tweets on Facebook provides an easy access to us and helps us to control which tweet has to be posted in our Facebook wall and which should not be with the help of hashtag (#). If you postfix "#fb" in the end of your tweet, your message will be posted in your Facebook wall page and if you don't postfix, then it will not be posted.

Steps to Autopost tweets to Facebook:-

  • Know your twitter username.

  • Go to this link and login with your Facebook credentials.

  • Provide the twitter username in the Selective Tweets on Facebook page and save it.

  • Now login to you twitter account.

  • Write your tweet and finally end the tweet with "#fb" (without double quotes).

  • Now go to your Facebook profile page and you can see your tweet appearing on your Facebook wall.

That's it. Please do comment if this post has helped you. Thank you. Stay tuned with Techspace.

Facebook now introduces "Subscribe" Feature

Facebook has now introduced its latest feature with the Subscribe button. The Subscribe button will appear on one's profile page just next to the Add as a Friend Button. Here's a quick look of where it is going to appear.

The 'Subscribe' button is similar to Twitter's Follow feature and somewhat similar to Google+ 's Add to Circle option. The person to whom you subscribe need not have to accept like in a friend request. But the person who subscribes to you will be able to view all the public updates on his news feed. Additionally, you can also view profiles of the people who have subscribed to you which means, no secret followers. Facebook in one of its post explains this feature to be most useful to celebrities. It says -

It is most useful for public figures like journalists, artists, and local politicians. For example, if you’re a journalist, you can use a profile to share your press coverage with your readers and ask them to post tips to help guide your research and investigation.

This is really good because celebrities and popular figures need not have to accept friend requests from infinite fans neither the fans have to wait for their friend request to be accepted. This feature is likely to attract more celebrities to appear on facebook.

If you want to have a Subscribe button on your facebook profile page, then you have to go to this site facebook.com/about/subscribe and click on "Allow Subscribers". This will enable the Subscribe button on your profile.

Ever since Google+ is released, facebook is on a spree of rolling out new features. The features provided by both the giants are more or less the same. Online forums are already discussing the genuineness of features as to who first introduced which feature. The discussion is taking egg or hen pattern, as no one knows which one came first, the egg or the hen. Same is in this case, no one can really tell who copied which part of the feature from whom.

Facebook Improves: Photo tagging requires approval

Facebook, in its "The Facebook Blog" has posted a whole list of improvements that is going to roll out into Facebook in the coming days.

After a long day at work, you return home and log in to your facebook account to see that you are tagged in a picture where you're looking awkward. Worst part is that it even appears on the profile page as well. You go delete it but you are already late. How embarrassing could it get?

This happens to everyone and was one of the major requirement the users have been asking Facebook for a long time. But facebook has finally heard from the users and is soon to roll out this new feature by which before any of those tags appear on your profile, you get to review them. Here is a snapshot of how it would look.

This clearly means that you don't have to worry about being tagged in pictures that you do not want to appear on your profile. Whenever you are tagged, you get to decide whether you want it or not before anybody sees it.

Facebook has also released lot other features. Some seem to be derived specially to compete with Google+. Some other updates include these.

1. You get to control visibility of every part of your profile with a new inline menu that decides which set of people can or can not see.

2. Not a major update, Facebook changed the label "Everyone" to "Public".

3. You can now change the visibility of status updates anytime, even after posting it.

4. You can now add location to your updates.

You can get more information on what has changed in the tagging department here - facebook.com/about/tagging.

You can already see heated arguments in the comments section of facebook blog post between the google+ lovers and the facebook lovers.

So, what's your opinion?

Post to Google+ through SMS now - Only for Indian users

Google has a soft corner for the people in India. Or probably they have managed to understand the importance of mobile market in India. Because Google, in its Google+ has provided the functionality for Indian users (only) to update their Google+ status through their cell phones. This feature was already in facebook and looks like Google is on a spree to beat the facebook and grab some Indian population.

Enabling SMS Updates

To enable SMS way of updating the Google+ status, you need to do the following -

You need to first add your number to the Google+ settings. So go to your google plus settings page. Once you enter your phone number, then you will have the usual process of confirmation through a verification code sent to your mobile. Once your phone is verified, select the SMS radio button and you're done. The updates can be posted from your registered number by sending your update to +91 9222222222

Sharing Options

By default the update will be shared with all the circles but you do have some options to change the default. You have to append these tags likewise.

@[circle name]
To share with a specific circle, append your post with @[circle name].
For example: "Will see you at the game @soccerfolks".

@extended
To share with everyone in your extended circles, append your post with @extended.
For example: "Any SF restaurant recommendations? @extended".

@public
To share your post publicly, append your post with @public.
For example: “Any SF restaurant recommendations? @public”.

Public posts could be found in search.

@[email address]
To share your post with a specific person, append your post with @[email address].
For example, "In SF for the week @jazzguitar9@gmail.com" will be visible to jazzguitar9@gmail.com.

Security PIN

Google has always been cautious on security issues and hence you are allowed to add an optional security layer of entering PIN. If you set up a PIN, include the  SMS posts and commands with the PIN. For example: "A1B2C3 Will see you at the game @soccerfolks."

SMS Notifications

You can also receive notifications on your phone through SMS by just checking the boxes that best suit you. This is also available in the settings page. Here's the snapshot -

Google+ released today! Can it beat Facebook?

The much anticipated Google + has been finally released today. Having received invite, the first thing I felt was, Wow!

Google+ is the latest social networking from Google. It is hard to believe that it is from the 'makers of orkut' which has repeatedly failed (in a perpetual fail mode) in the past few years. It has all the features I wanted. It connects your Internet life. Be it Gmail, Google Reader, Picasa, Blogger or the Google Docs, you have it all at one place.

The interface totally rocks. It supports features like Circles, Hangouts, Sparks and much more. Circles are to arrange your contacts, keep your friends stay away from your bosses. You have complete and easy control over what you share, who can view it and what you want comments on. Sparks ignite a spark in you. It makes available to you, thousands of articles and other web stuff for you to read on. Once you fill your topic of interest, the google will pick up stuff from the web and spark your page content to read and share.

Google hangouts are the next coolest thing. They're like the groups on facebook. You can start a hangout and invite people to join it. You can have video conferencing with multiple people at a time, if you wish to. This probably makes it the only social network that allows video chat (of course next to orkut, haunted now). Photo uploading and sharing is very simple and very fast.

Google + has notifications, way of sharing things, the home page and most of other things similar to facebook that people have already tagged Google + as 'facebookish'. But it is still beautifully presented. The way things have been spread around are neat. Nothing has been overdone like they did with the Orkut ( the like thing of facebook imitated in orkut is an example of overdoing things ).

Here are some screenshots -

Well google has still give a green signal to the Google apps and other applications like that on facebook. Once they're out, it is sure to beat facebook. What is your view?

How to get back your old classic facebook photo viewer

Facebook has released its new facebook photo viewer just a while ago and has not appealed much to its audience. The new facebook viewer with black background has been little sluggish in opening and closing and I personally prefer the old viewer over this fancy new one.

After digging for a while on the internet I found these two methods to revert back to the old classic photo viewer.

1. This is a simple method and works on any browser any time. Just refresh the page(or pres F5) when you're viewing a photo album. The page will reload and there it is, the old and beautiful classic photo viewer. Sad thing is that you have to this for every album(not every photo).

2. This second method is more simpler because you don't have to refresh the page every time, but this trick works only on your Chrome Browser. It is a free extension that you have to install on to your chrome. It is called "Revert Facebook Photo Viewer" extension which is available in the webstore. Just install this once and you have to never worry about it again. The extension works in your background silently never showing you the new photo viewer of your facebook.

Both the tricks are working perfectly as of now. Hope this has been helpful to you.

Breakup Notifier - Know when your friends break up

There are so many apps on facebook most of which are dumb. Here's just another app that is dumb but could be useful to some of you. It is the breakup notifier. What it all does is notifies you when your friends change their relationship status and this is how the Breakup notifier website explains you -
You like someone. They're in a relationship. Be the first to know when they're out of it.

Simple, ain't it?

Just imagine that you see this gorgeous girl on your first day at college. The very next thing you do is log on to facebook and search for her profile but to your disappointment, you may find her relationship status to be taken. That's sad.

Breakup notifier is a great tool for stalkers on facebook. You get notified when your favorites are freshly dumped. All you got to do is go to BreakUp Notifier website. Log in with your facebook account. Choose the friends you want to have an eye on. And you will get email whenever they change their relationship status. Enjoy! And all the best :)
