Install libreoffice in ubuntu

You might have used OPEN OFFICE in UBUNTU platform till today but there is another software LIBREOFFICE which  is compatible with other major office suites. This software is available in other platforms too.  This software can be downloaded for free :)


Installation steps:-




  • Go to terminal and type sudo apt-get remove --purge openoffice*.* [Optional]

  • Download the software of your choice from here

  • After downloading, extract the files to the folder with the name LibreOffice.  Inside LibreOffice, create another folder with the name DEBS and move all the extracted files to DEBS folder or You can easily do all these tasks by a simple command. Type sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/en-US/DEBS/*.deb in terminal and you are done with this.

  • Finally you should install Desktop integration package. To do that, type the following in terminal. sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/en-US/DEBS/desktop-integration/libreoffice3.3-debian-menus_3.3-9526_all.deb




Installation complete and now you can use LibreOffice.
