Can update cause problem?

What is UPDATE?

Ans) Update is nothing but changing/editing.

Update can be used to change the nature of behavior of legacy systems. Update make changes in files and also in the contents of the system. Update is useful for getting the most recent features.

Well, the discussion here is CAN UPDATE CAUSE PROBLEM?. My answer is YES, UPDATE CAN CAUSE PROBLEM. You may ask how and why? Here is the simple and brief explanation.

Consider, u r updating the software version of some software and when the updated version has a feature which u want but its not as good as it was before. U can say, Huh what? Yes, the updated version of software can be a problem bcoz it may be a updated version but it may not be as user friendly as it was and not much easy to handle as it was before(Bcoz of several additional features). U may think WHAT THE HELL AM I TELLING YOU? but its true. Consider one small software and u use it for some basic features and after updation, there may be several components and features which u may not use. Now,u feel YES. WHAT I AM SAYING IS TRUE. I think u may have come across these problem once or twice. But i am not here to tell about the legacy system/software updates, i want to tell one major problem which occured to me today. Disgusting. I hate updates from now on and really dont ever think of updation unless and until it is inevitable.

Here i come to main point. I use UBUNTU 9.10 KARMIC KOALA, a LINUX operating system. Update manager popped and showed UPDATES AVAILABLE-56.96MB. I thought well, after so many days, it showed for update and let me update. Updates were not available since it is a new version and all features has been included. I saw some 10-12 components which will get update and i thought oh!! Good. Nice.. :P Its good to update since it had updation of mozilla browser(though i use mozilla browser rarely i.e only for downloads which has more than 50mb, i thought of updating). And other components had some other updations and didn't give much concentration on them and clicked on update. It updated and prompted/asked for RESTART NOW or RESTART LATER. I selected RESTART NOW. That's it. That was the last time UBUNTU HAD LOGGED IN perfectly. After restart, it took me to command prompt screen and showed this error.

[Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported

For the first world, TAB lists possible command completions.Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename]

sh:grub>

That's it.

I have 3 OS in my system and to search for some solutions, i logged-in from windows xp and searched all over the net but it was of no use. Completely weird update. It was an updation of GRUB and no solutions were there in net. I had no other option except re-installing it. But if i re-install, i should update all softwares and i should re-enable/change many settings as per my requirements. And, i dont have more usage since mine is 1.5gb(500c plan). Well, now i made my mind to re-install and i re-installed it. After re-installing, i felt as if i haven't used UBUNTU for a year or more. It was not in the way as it was before. To enable all settings, i struggled a lot and now i can say i have made 90% same as it was before and tomorrow morning if i update, all will be as before. Well, today i can say it gave me a MORAL. "DO NOT UPDATE TILL YOU COMPLETELY AWARE OF WHAT GONNA HAPPEN AFTER UPDATION". From today i should be more careful when i update and will not update unless and until it is essential.

Thank you.

Photoshop CS3

Well. There are many photo editing softwares in which only we can do some colour modification, crop the image and some little effects. But the highly specialized and awesome software used to make any changes as you wish can be done by ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS3. This is a pretty good stuff for all modifications and effects.

Not only the photo modification, you can edit photos and .mov(Mpeg4) format videos in such a way, viewers think as if they are watching that video in some devices such as ipod, TV, Computer, mobiles and etc........

Photoshop is as vast as ocean and you can modify anything and everything just by some simple steps. But all that steps appear to be tough at first look but as you progress in using this software, it becomes more and more easy and you feel good about your modified/edited     pics/videos.

There are several such softwares with the same company ADOBE but the software used for photo editing is photoshop. There is a software called ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR which is used for the same purpose but the efffects and animation are little less. For  first users, i prefer to go for ILLUSTRATOR but for some used users, better to go for ADOBE Photoshop.

There are lot more softies by ADOBE and they are used for specific purposes.

Some are listed below:---

  • ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

  • ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

  • ADOBE FLASH

  • ADOBE FLASH PLAYER

  • ABOBE AFTER EFFECTS

  • ADOBE DREAM VIEWER

  • ADOBE SOUND FORGE

  • ADOBE AIR

and lot more.........

Google Chrome 2 Beta Released - What's new?

Google Chrome is back to be the everyday browser you need.

Lets just have a glimpse on what is new ?

The most common thing people look for in a browser is - the speed. Google Chrome stable version was just good enough but it was not as good as the apple's safari. But the new Chrome 2 Beta is just no less than Safari now. The speed tests have proved that Google Chrome 2 beta is just in line with Safari. And its in the Google Chrome developer team itself announced that its twice as fast as its previous version.

Auto-fitting of two windows is one more new feature. I don't understand any use of this feature though. Just drag the tab out and release the pointer just near the other Google Chrome 2 window border. You will have 2 Chrome windows side by side equally fit to the screen.

Full screen browsing runs smooth and fine.

Zooming is lot better that is appreciable. For the previous versions, zooming meant increasing the font size. But with Google Chrome 2 Beta, you can zoom into pictures too.

A disappointing news for the Mozilla users is the add-on thing. Add-ons are not implemented even in this version and this drawback can keep the Mozilla lovers far from Google Chrome.

I personally love Google Chrome for its simplicity and beauty in it.

Try and see... Google Chrome 2 Beta.

Google Movie search

www.google.com/movies

Hey, movie search by google. Search any city and you'll get it. Its so easy now. No sign-ups nothing. Just get into the website and see what movies are running in which theatres. Very simple! :) Enjoy your weekends now. Life is so easy :)

But the fact that all the theatres are not included is a drawback. Though, multiplexes are not missed. Good thing by google.

Google Gears - Offline Gmail

I always love Google for its extreme ideas. That is why my blog has lot of posts on Google stuff. Google gears is an offline way of handling Web sites. The best one is the Google mail. Gmail.

Now you can access your Gmail inbox while you are offline. Here is an how-to guide for that.

Step 1: Go to gears.google.com and install Google gears.

Step 2: Open your Gmail inbox with any browser. And go to the labs section. To go to the labs section, click on the green conical flask shown on the top-right of your screen along with options like 'Settings' and 'Sign out'.

Step 3: Enable the 'Offline Gmail' option here. And then save changes.

Now your account will be reloaded with one more new option called 'Offline' near the labs 'settings' option. Clicking on that will take you to the Offline mode. When you do this for the first time,  all your mails, attachments photos and everything will be copied on to the system. So don't enable this option if you are using public computers.

Now you will have a shortcut to Gmail on your desktop. Click that. Login. Then go Online and your new mails will be downloaded to your system. You can then go back offline and check your new mails.

If you have lot of mails in your inbox, the first time download is a painful task. Try it! :)

Google Gears is not just confined for GMail. There are lot other websites that can be handled with Gears.

Google Earth 5 - What's New?

I hadn't been using Google earth for a long time. But after considering the lot of fuss being made on twitter and other communities, I thought of trying it out myself. It was, as always, nice.

The new features added to this are

Oceans - Earlier versions of Google Earth of course had oceans but not clear enough. With the new Google earth 5.0, nooks and crannies on the surface of the earth inside the oceans can be viewed. That makes it so good. Now you can dive into the ocean and check out some deeps!

History Imagery - The earlier versions of Google Earth showed pictures of locations which were taken sometime back. Now, Google Earth can take you back in history and show you how the locations looked like.

Recording Tour - Sharing your tour route has always been troublesome while explaining it to others. But not anymore with your Google Earth 5.0. You can now record your tour with a click of button. Click on the record button and fly through the destinations you went by. Click stop and then you can save the tour route. Upload it to YouTube and share it with the world. Simple! Isn't it?

3D Mars - Now this is my favourite. Google Earth had already released the sky view in its previous versions. The clarity was just quite lousy. Now, Google in collaboration with 'NASA' has released this new feature - 3D Mars. By selecting Mars from the Toolbar,  the surface of the Mars can be viewed with clarity and resolution high enough. You can see Mons Olympus, the biggest Volcano in the solar system. All those things you read in General Knowledge books can be experienced now. Isn't that Cool?
Check out this video released by Google through its blog.

1473MP Picture taken during Obama's swearing-in Ceremony.

Simply awesome!

obama

I had heard that a high-clarity picture was taken during Obama's swearing-in ceremony. Picture in which you can zoom to see a high clarity picture of a person standing a kilometer away. Considering it as just an hoax, I ignored it. But today, I got a mail. Wow! And that hoax is no more a hoax to me. Its real. I know you people won't believe. But seeing is believing. So I have the photo for you. Check it out yourselves and zoom in to see some famous personalities. You can see people sleeping, count the stars on the flag, what is in Bush's hands and anything. The clarity of picture is just superb! No words to describe that. You can see an Exit board which is out of the field. I mean you can read the letters on the board which is more than a km far. You can see every person's face. So good!

Click on the picture above or just click here to zoom and enjoy the clarity.

Google has answer to life, the universe and everything!

This is funny!

Do you know what is the answer to life, the universe and everything? No?

But Google has. :)

Go to Google.com and type in the search field,  "answer to life, the universe and everything", without quotes. The answer is ??? Check out yourselves.

The answer is not a philosophical book of 100 pages or anything. Its the Google calculator that calculates your answer. And the answer is very simple if you don't waste time thinking more about the answer. Now, why is that answer so funny?

Here goes the story: The whole concept is taken from Douglas Adam's fictional series "Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy". The series was screened into a movie in 2005 by the same name. Researchers, passionate to know the answer to life, the universe and everything construct a super computer called "Deep Thought". Deep thought was questioned this and Deep thought computed for 7 and half million years before the quest ended. The computer provides this answer "Fourty-two". Deep Thought was pretty sure of its answer. To say anything more than this will be called spoiler to the book and movie. But why on the earth did Douglas select 42 of all the numbers? Its his story, his book and HIS CHOICE.

Bangalore routes - www.vidteq.com

www.vidteq.com

Haven't seen a site like this. Simply great! A new bangalore based startup has brought us this amazingly good and helpful website.

Bangalore is such a big city that remembering all the routes is not so possible. Now vidteq has brought this wonderful site that comes in handy if you are moving around in Bangalore. Vidteq gives you the complete direction for driving between any two places in Bangalore. Just enter the starting point and the destination place. Vidteq gives you the driving map on the right side of the screen and the driving directions at the left bottom of the screen. And above this driving directions, you get a video terminal which shows you a pre-shot video of that route. Being on time is easy now. :)

Enjoy!

Google Calculator

Google calculator is a hidden feature of Google search. No need of separate URL. Just log in to Google.com and type in whatever you want to calculate. You can type anything like 100+130 or it can even be trigonometry of sin(30) or it can be anything. Operators that can be used are

OperatorFunctionExample
+addition5+3
-subtraction9-4
*multiplication8*5
/division23/2
^exponentiation(raise to the power of)6^4
%modulo8%7

It also understand the value of 'pi'. Like, you can use sin(pi/3). You can also use parenthesis to make a perfect equation. The equation inside the parenthesis will be evaluated first and then the rest.
You can also use this as converters. If you want to know x kms in terms of miles, then just type in 10kms in miles.
Conversion from decimal to binary is easy. For example, type 54 to binary. You can use hexadecimal, octal and binary numbers. Prefix hexadecimal numbers with 0x, octal numbers with 0o and binary numbers with 0b. For example: 0x7f + 0b10010101.
It also understands when you say speed of light or just c.
Not all the features of Google Calculator are included here. You can convert decimal to hexadecimal or even roman numerals. Just as described above with binary conversion. Google Calculator also understands some complex statements like this G*(6e24 kg)/(4000 miles)^2. It understands these 'kg', 'miles' and even the constants like 'G'.

Not all the features of Google Calculator is described here. Just get on Google and start experimenting with this.
Isn't this cool? A search engine not just a search engine.
